Tanith (tay-nith) is an artist and designer passionate about the power of artistic expression. On a trip to Reykjavik in 2017, she fell in love with the daydream like formations, colors and textures within Iceland’s harsh landscape. Upon returning home, she picked up a palette knife and took her creativity to the canvas to create her signature abstract landscapes as a love story to her favorite country.

Tanith’s painting technique echoes her experience as a ceramic sculptural artist. Her Icelandic series—with its use of underpainting, bold brush strokes, and heavy textures—explores how structural depth can be explored on the canvas.

Fascinated by the space between real and abstract and movement within still environments, she works with high-density oils to study how motion happens between layers to capture the emotion and beauty of Iceland’s unworldly landscape.

ARTIST STATEMENT

“I paint over and over, bad paintings and imperfections and wrong colors and mistakes. I keep painting, creating more of a mess, hoping that maybe I will find some hint of beauty, of peace, of satisfaction. Sometimes the journey is quick, and sometimes it’s a long painful road of discovery and surrender and when I can finally say I found love - then the painting is completed.”
